A catalytic convertor is a small exhaust emission control device that converts exhaust gas and other pollutants from an engine to less-polluting pollutants in order to catalyze the oxygen reduction reaction. Gaseous emissions are formed when gasoline is burned in an internal combustion engine. Some gases pass through the exhaust pipes, and combine with oxygen in the exhaust gases. Many gases escape from the engine through the exhaust outlets. These are known collectively as particulate emission.
