Commenting on blogs to increase backlinks to your blog is nothing new. People have left comments on blogs for this very reason for, well, just about as long as blogging has been around. Unfortunately, due to bad blogging advice, automated blog commenting software, and leaving the wrong comments on the wrong blogs – leaving comments on blogs to increase backlinks is quickly becoming a dead practice.

On the other hand, I say this with a sheepish smile, since website are free, I set up another blog in Google for my family and friends where I simply post pictures of the family and news about them. This I have no need to be picked up by web search engines, and just pass out the URL to my kids and close friends. Which is another way to use blogs.

Bloggin also gives small companies a way to expand; to reach millions and millions of consumers everyday. What could be better then that! After all isn’t that the main objective of all companies. To reach the largest base of people they can, in the most convenient way to the business as well as the consumer?

Other good Blooging software is out there as well. And even for the non technolgical minded setting one up is fairly easy. If you want to change look and feel and templates, they can be found all over the web, or just use the options of your blogging software.

Search engines tend to like blogs and give them a good rating which makes them easier for people to find. For that reason blogs have become a format that is now used by big names in names online. Companies are even switching to blog formats or adding them to their existing websites.

The solution here relies solely in the hands of the search engines. It’s up to them to discount all these types of blogs as well as their links. Unfortunately, the many search engines still seem to eat this stuff up as legitimate.

However. What if you took the time to find good blogs, with good content and that is complimentary to your own blog; and you took time to actually read their article and leave a genuinely good comment related to the subject, what are your chances of getting that comment approved?

Buying backlinks, unless it is a service that hand submits those comments and as I described, is a big waste of your hard-earned money. Whether you pay someone to use it or you use it yourself, automated blogging software is another waste of time and money. Also, leaving the wrong type of comments on the wrong type of blogs will do you more harm than good.
