One year ago, my father asked me, the young internet entrepreneur, “What’s a blog?” I paused for minute. I had heard the term before … but I couldn’t answer him. I honestly didn’t know. Little did I know that so many people would soon tap into a new type of gold mine and make money with blogs.

It is much easier to specialize in pay per click advertising then it would be to try this on a part-time basis and also try social media, article marketing, traffic exchanges, forum marketing, classified advertising, email marketing, bulk mail, and so on..

This is one of my favorite methods for finding dofollow online blogs and other linking opportunities. Here’s what you do. Search in Google with the main keywords in your niche. Note the top 10 (or 5 or 20, it doesn’t matter) website URLs. Then go to Yahoo! Site Explorer and display the incoming links to that particular URL. Go to each URL, especially if it’s a blog (indicated often by the word “blog” in the title), and then go to those blogs.

Let me share to you some of my ideas in making blogs useful in list building business. This might help know how to create powerful blogs that would translate to expand your list.

Your follow me should have an optimum keyword density that catches the eye of a search engine to get it noticed. Besides, they should have a visual appeal, latest and burning topics. Make your blog interesting and appealing for the visitors so that they can keep coming back to you for more.

OGo easy on the advertising. The idea of a blog is to give readers something fun and exciting to read and look at. You will have more readers if you comment on the world and are entertaining, rather than just hype your product. Consider writing about your day, the atmosphere your workplace has, and culture, rather than just your company.

Take as much care writing a pitch for a blogger as you do for a national magazine, TV show, or other outlet. Many bloggers don’t respond because they get blase pitches that treat them like the sewer rat of media. Not cool.
